Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR)

ASMR is a physical reaction that is characterised by a tingling sensation and a sense of low-grade euphoria. Commonly triggered by specific auditory or visual stimuli, it has risen to extreme popularity thanks to social media and its ability to provide the new generations with a tool to fight off digital stress and relax. Designer Tal Maslavi looks at how modern life exists on the border between the physical and the virtual, compromising our ability to touch and feel. This is also due to the devices through which we experience life, which are becoming sleeker, smoother and less tactile. In this collection that rubs shoulders with performance art, he examines the human need for physical touch and interaction, as if grasping on a reality that appears to be gradually fading away, and questions the ease with which we have expropriated our senses in the transition to digital life.

Selection motivation

In the vibrant world of fashion, where creativity dances to the rhythm of innovation, "Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response" emerges as a captivating symphony, a collection that harmoniously blends art and fashion to evoke a profound resonance within the human spirit. From the very outset, the collection strikes a chord of consciousness, challenging the pervasive trend of fast fashion's disposability. Its stickers serve as a gentle reminder of the importance of quality and craftsmanship, inviting us to reconsider our fleeting relationship with garments.

Like a soothing melody after a cacophony of noise, the Hugging Jacket emerges as a poignant embodiment of our society's deep-seated need for human connection. In an era increasingly dominated by virtual interactions, the jacket's ingenious design masterfully extends the comforting embrace, transforming a simple gesture into a tangibility of shared emotions for both the giver and receiver.

Throughout the collection, there's an undeniable emphasis on the beauty of tactility, a deliberate invitation to abandon the confines of the digital realm and reconnect with the sensate world. The exploration of textures, the evocation of childhood memories through familiar materials, scents and flavors - each element is meticulously crafted, not as a mere gimmick, but as an integral part of the narrative's captivating sphere.

Yet, amidst the playful and evocative elements, there lies a subtle undercurrent of profundity, a reflection of the multifaceted tapestry of human experience. The collection doesn't shy away from acknowledging the complexities and contradictions that enrich our lives, but it does so without judgment or pretense, leaving the interpretation open to the individual viewer, allowing each soul to make up their own narrative within the story.

"Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response" transcends the boundaries of mere garments; it's an immersive art installation, an experience that prompts introspection and self-discovery, inviting us to question our habits, our lifestyles, and the choices we make in an increasingly interconnected world. It challenges us to find harmony amidst the dissonance, to embrace the symphony of life in all its richness and diversity.

In a fashion landscape often criticized for its superficiality, "Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response" emerges as a refreshing antidote, a testament to the transformative power of fashion to transcend mere aesthetics and delve into the very essence of human experience. It reminds us that fashion, like music, has the power to evoke a mix of emotions, to touch the very depths of our souls, and to inspire us to create a more harmonious and fulfilling world around us.
