ITS 2020 explained episode 19: How to recovery from athletic performance using footwear, by Rebecca Marsden.

Rebecca Marsden is a knitwear designer based in the West of Ireland. She was selected as a finalist for ITS 2020 with her collection “Sole Sok”.

Rebecca designed her knitted footwear prototypes considering aerial performers and athletes needing to focus on recovery to maximise their performance, by intense moments of pressure and release. She drew her inspiration from the raw energy of the sea and from the aerial body in motion. Using circular and seamless knitting technologies, she focused thoroughly on responsible design to positively impact on production. One example is knitting twin skin socks in one piece with a zero-waste approach thanks to circular knitting machines which allowed her to knit inner and outer sock in one flowing seamless piece.

Most importantly, it created an ever-growing family supporting creativity, like branches on a tree growing in different directions, yet nurtured by the same roots. It has built an impressive Creative Archive, a unique collection tracing the history of fashion evolution. Many of the over 630 finalists were selected by top fashion brands where they now hold key positions, or have successfully developed their own lines.
