ITS 2020 explained episode 12: How to use fashion as catharsis for trauma, by Aharon Israel Genish.

05 March 2021

Aharon Israel Genish is a graduate from WIZO Haifa Academy of Design and Education.

He was selected for the fashion contest of ITS 2020 with his collection “Lo Tishtok / You will not be silenced”

One of the prominent phenomena in the ultra-Orthodox sector is life in the shadow of silencing. Children and teenagers are being sexually abused and raped every day, and their voices will not be heard. As a child who grew up in an ultra-Orthodox family Aharon was educated in Torah studies. It was the high-grade rabbi who decided to cherish him and make him his Chavruta (learning companion) every evening. One of those evenings, during the learning, Aharon felt deep suffocation. The rest you can assume. His collection reflects the emotional process he has been through from the eyes of a child through the emotional jolt, the revenge and acceptance. His work is a symbol of his daily shouting to fulfil the eleventh commandment: You shall not be silenced.

International Talent Support was launched in 2002 and throughout its history it has developed into the most highly recognized platform to showcase & support the strongest young talents on the planet. Most importantly, it created an ever-growing family supporting creativity, like branches on a tree growing in different directions, yet nurtured by the same roots. It has built an impressive Creative Archive, a unique collection tracing the history of fashion evolution. Many of the over 630 finalists were selected by top fashion brands where they now hold key positions, or have successfully developed their own lines.
