Your Kids, One Museum, and Lots of Fun – A family day out at ITS Arcademy is an experience not to be missed

We were all born to create, and it’s during childhood that this is most evident. Our favourite adult would place a blank sheet of paper in front of us along with a handful of crayons. And what would happen then? There would be no questions, no doubts, no “blank page” moments — we’d simply pick up a crayon and create, as if it were the most natural thing in the world. At first, instinctively, and then realising that those scribbles could give shape to something tangible. Our own worlds would come to life.

That’s why, of all our visitors, kids might be our favourites, with their still-unbounded imagination and potential. We love seeing them captivated by the projects and portfolios exhibited at ITS Arcademy – Museum of Art in Fashion. When primary schools visit for workshops, for instance, we’re always in awe of how children tackle the activities and come up with wildly artistic solutions. So, of course, we couldn’t resist creating a wonderful experience just for your kids… 

Whenever you’re planning a family day out, we’ve got you covered with a tailor-made, guided “exploration” of ITS Arcademy, filled with fun activities and creative stimulation. Your children will be given a booklet and pencil, and with the help of our guides, they will discover by observing, guessing, finding, and drawing. These are the fundamentals of what it means to be creative: being curious about the world around you, finding your own solutions to questions and problems, and honing the skills to bring those solutions to life.

So many surprises await them in the Gallery, where “The Many Lives of a Garment” exhibition is currently on display. The exhibition features familiar spaces they’ll recognise — from a wardrobe to a window display and a shop changing room—and we’ll encourage them to interact with what they see. We’ll test their ability to remember the outfits on display or simply let them unleash their creativity with a fashion creation of their own. Mannequins in the gallery have been purposely positioned as if they were visitors — watching how your kids respond will be a highlight!

And when they step into the Wunderkammer, the room of wonders where the ITS Contest 2024 finalists are showcased, you’ll see the amazement in their eyes (you’ll feel it yourself!). Here, they’ll experience 15 different expressions of creativity from the most exciting young designers on the planet: horned shoes, collages of flowers, plants, and animals inspired by mediaeval bestiaries, shoes that resemble cakes, glasses made out of candy, outfits dusted with thin layers of snow… It’s a magical journey, and our guides will make it even more enchanting by explaining what they see.

Your kids’ adventure will come to an end in the Archive, where part of the ITS Arcademy collection is stored. There’s an open aisle staged to show what storage looks like, and once again, with pen and paper, we’ll ask your children what they love most from their own wardrobe — their personal “archive.”

Play is at the root of creativity, and human beings are the last in a long line of creatures from the animal kingdom who learn through play in their early years. If we grow into adults and continue to nurture that passion, we’ll feel as though we’re playing just like we did when we were kids. Watching our own children play inspires us even more, as we see them filled with wonder and inspiration.
