Hadar pioneers a hybrid fabrication design concept and explores a new approach to footwear design. Using an original layering method that retraces the known base hierarchy of function and shape, her shoes are a compound of 5 to 7 different stratas. Strata is a geological term describing a fundamental earth unit, and is used in the project to replace the known term “layer” used in shoes. The Strata Compound method developed by Hadar bridges gaps between modern digital technology and old-world craftsmanship weaving together nylon 12 polymer and vegetable-tanned leather. It is combined with a 3D design process which begins with personal customization by using a digital scan of the foot. The shoe structure strength is acquired by all stratas / layers combined together, creating a geometric lock enhanced by hand sewing.
ITS Fondazione Ferragamo Award
The ITS Fondazione Ferragamo Award offered a footwear applicant a cash prize of €5,000 and the opportunity to carry out an internship in the Company’s Creative Department.
Award Motivation
For the ability to combine the most advanced technologies and attention to sustainability with traditional craftsmanship and an ergonomic shape of the shoe, elements which can be found in Salvatore Ferragamo’s creativity.
Lotto Sport Award – 3rd place
The Lotto Sport Award assigned 3.000, 2.000 and 1.000 euro respectively to three winners who developed a sneakers project
Award Motivation
Creativity/originality expressed in terms of concepts, modelling, colours and graphics. An ability to express and convey ideas, drawing skills, explanations and the use of digital programs. Design skills, in terms of quality of the models and prototypes presented. Presentation of the project - both in the portfolio and in the performance video. And finally a sportswear attitude.
