In the late 1980s, the fall of the Berlin Wall marked a transformative moment, symbolising the end of the Cold War and the reunification of East and West Germany. Historically, it was perhaps the most significant border to ever fall. Three decades later, however, the world has witnessed a surprising surge in the construction of physical walls, with the number increasing from 6 in 1989 to at least 63 worldwide in 2023. To truly understand the impact of these barriers and achieve a borderless perspective, designer Shanon Poupard argues that one might need to cross one: this is what her look is all about, with constant references to crossing barriers depicted in her garments.
