CKM – Creative Knitwear Master Course. Nurture Individual Knitwear Talent
18 March 2016
“Queen of Knitwear”. No definition could be more appropriate in Deanna Ferretti Veroni’s case. She has earned it and deserved it thanks to a hard working career that spans 5 decades assisting designers like Kenzo Takada, Claude Montana, Martin Margiela, Yves Saint Laurent and Yohji Yamamoto (the list is endless). Proof are the thousands of prototypes and samples she has preserved during her career, creating the Modateca Deanna, the International Center for fashion knitwear co-founded with her daughter Sonia Veroni. A 20,000 square meter historical archive that holds over 40,000 garments. Put simply, the most important knitwear database out there.
Deanna and Modateca. Join these two forces together and imagine what can be done in an educational context. This is precisely the idea which sparked CKM – Creative Knitwear Master Course, like no other since the selected candidates will have the opportunity to study all aspects of knitwear design in depth, hands-on and with a direct interaction with some of the most important Italian production companies in the field of knitwear (both industrial and artisanal).
CKM will provide the unique possibility of not just studying the existing yarns, fibers and techniques but coming up with new ones, working side by side with the above-mentioned specialized companies. Moreover, the candidates will be asked to develop a capsule collection which will be produced by the partner company which is closer to the needs of the collection, which will be showcased to the press and to fashion insiders.
This is the mission of CKM and each and everything about the course has been planned in this direction. Beginning with its exclusivity, to individually follow each and every one of the 10 lucky candidates that will be selected.
The CKM Scientific and Academic Committee which will be responsible for the selection are represented among others by Laura Lusuardi – Fashion Coordinator of Max Mara, Antonio Marras – Fashion Designer, Sara Maino – Senior Editor of Vogue Italia and Vogue Talents, Ermanno Scervino – Fashion Designer, Carlo Capasa – President, Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana, Laudomia Pucci – Vice President, Fondazione Altagamma, Floriane de St Pierre – FSPSA, Deanna Ferretti of course and also ITS Founder and Director Barbara Franchin.
Knitwear enfant prodige Slobodan Mihajlovic (2003 finalist and designer for Cavalli and Peter Pilotto) will be among the visiting professors together with Filippo Bassoli, Senior Womenswear knitwear designer for Gucci, and Harriet Miller, Head of Knitwear for Céline.
Modateca Deanna, alongside with qualified partners, is therefore offering its experience in education, on the strength of its mission to preserve and enhance the value of knitwear history, testified by the richness of its archive, a unique example at the international level. At the same time, the course looks to the future, combining the recuperation of craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology to be in line with the challenges of the contemporary job market.
It is really hard to find such a unique program – with a 360° approach on knitwear but most importantly a direct, day-to-day collaboration with the industry – in the international fashion education system, CKM does stand out of the pack with a number of strong points that make it an unrenounceable opportunity for those of you out there willing to expand their knitwear capabilities and learn from the best. Organised in partnership with Imax – Max Mara Fashion Group and ENKA, the Master’s Course dedicates special attention to the important heritage, in Italy, of knitwear. Precisely the reason why Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana and Fondazione Altagamma are backing it.
Applications may be submitted until June 30th.
The selected candidates will be contacted directly by July 25th and start their knitwear journey in October.
