The Lotto Sport Award. An iconic tennis heritage re-invented by young talents.

22 Maggio 2019

Lotto Sport is one of the most iconic sportswear brands, with a decades-long heritage rooted in tennis and soccer. From its beginning in 1973, the name of the company is associated with an iconic logo: a tennis field and a football field, superimposed, and connected by a passion for sports and its values such as respect and fair play which still reflect the nature of Lotto.

JOHN NEWCOMBE – MARTINA NAVRATILOVA

During the 70s, Lotto scored what was then a rarity in sports, in the form of unsolicited endorsements: world-renowned tennis players like John Newcombe – 8-time Wimbledon champion – and Tonino Zugarelli – Davis Cup champion – both wore Lotto while winning big on the international scene. Since then countless tennis legends have worn Lotto, from Martina Navratilova to Boris Becker and Thomas Muster. When Lotto decides to step in the soccer arena it does so in a sensational way, sponsoring top players like Dino Zoff, who wins the World Cup in 1982 and champions like Ruud Gullit, Cafu, Andriy Shevchenko, Carlo Ancelotti, Luca Toni as well as teams like the legendary A.C. Milan of the 90s, Juventus and Napoli.

In recent years Lotto has partnered with fashion designer Damir Doma – a true sports fan himself – launching itself in the contemporary sportswear scene with capsule collections presented at Pitti Uomo, at the Milan Fashion Week and at some of the most renowned international concept stores that revisit the heritage of the brand through the Croatian designer’s creativity.

DAMIR DOMA COLLECTION

Lotto Sport joined ITS 2019 to further redefine the idea of sportswear for the future, by challenging 3 selected contestants with a very specific brief that will see them develop a complete outfit inspired by the world of tennis and revisiting one of its most iconic tennis shoes, the Futura, worn by Boris Becker in his multiple Wimbledon wins. The 3 finalists selected by Lotto Sport are:

Jimin Kim – South Korean
Rafael Kouto – Swiss
Anni Salonen – Finnish

Jimin Kim applied for ITS 2019 with a fashion collection rooted in traditional South Korean knotting techniques, Rafael Kouto with menswear outfits built from scraps and waste brilliantly re-engineered, while Anni Salonen’s project was inspired by new age travellers and their lifestyles of free festivals, raves and demonstrations. We are truly excited to see how such different creative directions will mix with the Lotto Sport brief in a complete outfit that will hit the ITS 2019 catwalk on July 12th!
