Amina Galal Fashion Movie
In Our Alleys
The collection portrayed in this fashion film unfolds a poignant narrative of the evolving Egyptian culture, marked by the influence of Western elements, colliding with local traditions and resulting in a unique hybridization, a sort of de-cultured culture. Over the course of a year, designer Amina Galal immersed herself in the creation of this collection, finding an inherent connection to its theme. Hailing from a family that migrated from the village of Beni Mazar to Cairo, her roots epitomise the de-culturisation process. Despite embracing modernity, her family house in Al-Menya, untouched since the 1900s, serves as the film's backdrop, a testament to the clash of cultures. The short movie is the representation of Galal’s personal journey, as well as of many Egyptians, products of globalisation and modernity, yet deeply rooted in their heritage. It becomes a compelling story of the present, offering a glimpse into the future while honouring their past. A visual ode to the complexities of identity and the enduring connection to cultural roots.
