This collection is not only a subversive comment on issues of social acceptability, it’s also a falsified nostalgia of bygone times. Based on a personal experience of xenophobia, Rafaela decided to research stereotypes of Romanians, mixing them together as ironic depictions to create a new identity, a second chance for a first impression. An “experimental realism”, where past, present and future are all portrayed simultaneously. Since we cannot escape the syndrome of poverty that meets pathologies of capitalism to create a kitsch reality we call “East European identity”, why not embrace it?
