technical description
These two pieces are exclusively made in Chiquita banana boxes. The material becomes almost like leather after several processes: - first we remove all the layers that are not necessary to keep only the printed layer - This printed layer is then washed, crumpled, the process must be repeated several times to soften the cardboard without making it too fragile -Interlining the material and stabilizing with a layer of iron-on adhesive to prevent the material from tearing - We then obtain a flexible material, similar to animal leather, entirely recycled The bosses respect the measurements of the boxes, the idea is not to add unnecessary material The bananas are cut in certain places and lined with shaped gussets. They allow a transition from 2D to 3D without any addition of clamps. For assembly, to avoid losing material, we add a tab which is topstitched 4 times, this also helps structure the pieces.
concept
"Cargo culte" is a conceptual collection about Chiquita banana cardboard. The concept is to "re-invented fashion" with new process of pattern inspire by box. Re-use cardboard with process of "washing" to create like a new leather, supple and strong too. After some conceptual silhouette where I discovered how to make 3D with 2D without any addition of parts: folds, cuts, specific assemblies (without sewing)... I have developed clothes who looks like classic clothes but in fact their made with one or two parts. Pattern developments have made a new idea of how can we create clothes. The image of banana have also defined my universe for this collection: colorful, fun, creative, perturbing...
