Grey Prince of Wales slip dress with ruffled organza detailing, gold, green and black hand-painted lines, a tassel decorated rim and back corset closure.

concept

It was from the belief that the root of overconsumption derives from the lack of value given to the clothes we wear, from both consumer and designer. Is it possible to design value? To design emotional connection? To trigger such a sentimental reaction she taps into her own Scottish cultural background looking at patriotism, films and music (cultural arts that often evoke group nostalgia). The collection clashes traditional Scottish garments with the tacky side of the Scottish tourist industry, referencing many of its stereotypes in a light-hearted, tongue-in-cheek way. Sustainability and social awareness are at the core of her design process with a two-pronged approach: through seeking to use locally produced, sustainable materials and collaborating with local artisans; and designing garments for longevity, with strong emotional durability and purpose of reducing waste.
