2020-bo-zhang-brooch
technical description

Brown and black stockings composed of melted up-cycled polyamide and mounted with a copper pin. At first sight, the brooch appears to be a piece of rustic wood.

Size 13x130x55mm, 87 gr., 2020

concept

Bo Zhang used polyamide stockings for this project. The only material used, with the exception of copper in her brooch pins. By using fire to melt the polyamide at different temperatures she symbolises a process of destruction and recreation, a phoenix of reengineered beauty literally born from the ashes. Bo experimented with different types of stockings as well as temperatures, to see the effects of melting, colour, thickness and consistency. Her final pieces are a surprising imitation of natural materials born from the artificially man-made.
