concept

Through looking at traditional Chinese medicine beliefs that diseases arise from a block in the body’s meridian and this is where pain emanates from. In acupuncture needles work to unblock the human body through the epidermal surface. Yunqi's acupuncture pieces are combined with pearls, representing both a shell's reaction to a disease (a grain of sand) that needs to be cured and as a common language in jewellery. The same kind of research went in her cupping pieces. Cupping with fire is one of the most traditional Chinese medical treatments, extraction of toxins from the human body. Yunqi combined this with the shapes of viruses, composing a new aesthetic code.
