technical description

Sophisticated artefact from recycled food packaging and materials. Plastic bottle and aluminium can hybridised with moulded leather and metal using hand-crafted techniques. Size 740x75x75mm, 177 gr., 2019.

concept

Seeking to provide greater awareness on everyday waste and pollution, Xiaotu explores up-cycling in the context of heritage craftsmanship and popular culture. In doing so she questions how people often view and value materials. The pieces she created are made out of recycled food packaging such as plastic bottles and aluminium cans, bringing together the most traditional and refined craftsmanship with contemporary culture. A challenge to demonstrate how fashion artifacts can deliver a powerful message on environmental issues.
