concept

An investigation on the industry behind the fashion world. In modern day society, when people think of buying new outfits, they often go to large global clothing retailers. In this sense, a large part of the public today does not expect or even consider owning expensive pieces of clothing that last a lifetime. Growing up and being surrounded by fast fashion big players this meant that there was no exposure to artisanal or bespoke clothing, although always having a wide variety of apparel. As a fashion student, Louis Appelmans was able to observe and analyse this phenomenon, understanding and learning about haute couture and artisanal techniques. A love and hate relationship, the monstrosity of mass consumption that is also part of his childhood and memories.
