Transparent two-tone polyester dress with a full skirt featuring sculpted asymmetrical puff sleeves, a maxi shirt collar and all-over laser-cut thermo-applied strass decorations and contrasting-lined flower appliqués with trompe l’oeil detailing.

concept

A collection developed around the binary nature of nostalgia and constructed memory. Nostalgia is a mirage of reality that never was and never will be but continues to be longed for. Annaliese Griffith-Jones explores its different modes, both personal and universal, by reflecting on Appadurai’s theory of the ‘Armchair nostalgia’ which concludes that all individuals can feel nostalgia for any given time period or events never actually experienced. With reflections on a move to New York from suburban Australia, which made her acutely aware of her tendency to romanticise past situations, objects and places in a homogenised landscape.
