concept
According to gender theorist Judith Butler, gender is a performed social construction and not something we have a choice about how we enact in life. Researching and experimenting with this idea by allowing the wearer to choose how their gender appears and feels when wearing her pieces. Designs are abstractions of stereotypical male and female physical attributes. The wearer can use them to modify their body in order to align their physicality with the way they feel in terms of gender, offering new ways to explore their identity. The pieces turn into a tool to both deconstruct and provoke discussion around gender roles.
