2016-garance-brandely-brooch
technical description

Brooch featuring main panel elements made of wood and blue Formica which form an oval evoking an antique portrait, together with abstract panels recalling the pieces of a puzzle inlaid with Formica and wood marquetry. These pieces are linked together by a row of wooden beads with an aventurine bead at its centre. The back features inlaid linoleum marquetry and silver brooch fittings.

Size 390x60x20mm, 85 gr., Switzerland, 2016

concept

Like pieces of a puzzle, surreal fragments with undefined limits, assembled in the same way memory is recalled. Using recycled formica from kitchen furniture, connects with cherished childhood memories. These personal and at the same time universal objects have been transformed from serial furniture production into something intimate and emotional. Their design characteristics have been retranslated in a precious way. The metal parts are turned in silver and the stones seated on the formica create a sense of surprise, as an authentic detail seemingly more profoundly engrained than others.  The hidden back, a guarded side known only to the wearer, treasured like a secret memory.
