technical description

Futuristic accessory conceptually derived from the skeleton of dead animals. Made of vegetable tanned leather, plastic, and 'nanmu', a unique kind of dark, gold-rimmed wood which has remained buried underground for thousands of years without rotting. Made using 3D design and printing, CNC machining and traditional wood and leather working techniques.

concept

Inspired by skeletons of dead animals and looking at the opus of photographer Eiji Yuzawa. Focusing on the idea of being able to give an object a soul, while conceptually researching and discussing the five senses; vision, hearing, smell, taste and touch. Using the extraordinary material ‘Nanmu’: a dark, gold-rimmed wood which has remained buried underground for thousands of years and does not rot. In terms of production techniques, 3D-printing is applied alongside CNC and traditional craftsmanship (for the wood and leather). Seeking to inject each piece with a concentration of historic & sensorial references to interact with the user. Questioning our emotional relationship with objects and to ask: can they have a soul?
