Part of the 'Sumbawanga Trail' collection of bags, which transforms primal forms, such as the hand axe, the grindstone and the stele, into contemporary utilitarian artefacts. Vegetable tanned leather body adornment moulded and hand-stitched by blending modern and traditional techniques. Shape sculpted to mimic the body’s contours when worn. When away from the body, it stands alone as an intriguing artefact. Completely hardware-free.

Volker's collection looks at shifting anthropological form into contemporary utilitarian artefacts. The collection title, like each bag's name, reference places in and around Tanzania, Malawi and Kenya. It was also influenced by primal forms such as the hand axe, the grindstone and the stele, as well as by findings of the late mathematician August Ferdinand Möbius. Shapes were sculpted to mimic the body’s contours when worn, ensuring a snug and comfortable fit while remaining fully functional. Fusing primal elements with science and modern views, seeking to raise awareness on the diversity of culture and contemporary thinking in our world.
