Size 80x80x45mm, 14 gr., 2011
concept
Made entirely from real banknotes, this jewelry collection questions the value placed on gold and money, and the use of jewellery to determine wealth. Money-made jewellery is just like gold jewelry: everyone can see that it is precious. The wearer shows off their wealth and in addition can dismantle the piece when strapped for cash. All banknotes were valid currencies at the time pieces were made. They were only folded and not damaged in any way and there is no cutting or gluing in the process: each note can be unfolded and used again. Beginning with a comment on the perceived value of gold jewellery and of money, this project triggered the interest of Tine to find out more about money. The role it plays in daily lives, and in international connections?
