concept
"A new individual entity comes to existence as a result of a functional configuration of its material parts". From this definition of Emergent Individualism and from Helmut Newton's YSL "Le Smoking" Kat Marks designed a collection where each accessory consists of one leather bib, one chest-plate and a bow-tie. The chest-plate attaches to the bib by two brass inserts and bolts, while the bow-tie attaches to the bibs with a clip. This easy attach / detach method allows for every "part" to be interchangeable within the collection, meaning that with every interchange an original and daring aesthetic is created. The entire collection is made from Perspex plastic (with intricate designs appearing to be tattooed on the surface), vegetable-tan leather, brass hardware and suede detailing. Working closely with iconic British photographer Nick Knight, the collection evolved into a fashion film The Karass, produced by SHOWstudio.
