Part of a collection of accessories created with materials such as perspex, wood and brass through techniques used in architecture and product design, such as CNC milling, laser cutting and thermoforming. Black perspex and leather hat created in 2D and then turned into a three-dimensional structure through mechanistic details which enable the transformation.

concept

Exploring practices and techniques found in architecture and product design, from the layers of a contour map or slats of a Venetian blind to the suspension of tensile structures or pivot of a lamp. Investigating the use of materials associated with these industries such as Perspex, wood and brass through processes like CNC milling, laser cutting and vacuum forming. Using layers and contour lines, each hat is created using flat materials which are manipulated and formed into 3-dimensional structures with limited use of traditional millinery practices. Underpinning each design are mechanistic details which enable the hat to change or distort and ultimately dismantle into a smaller, more compact design.
