concept

A collection on "Tai Tai", a Cantonese phrase for "ladies who lunch": married and non-working rich women having lunch out in classy restaurants during work days and shopping in department stores out of boredom. Each piece was made entirely in a bespoke manner, conceived as unique works of art. There is a slight hint of chinoiserie in this work, which reflects Nicolas’s international upbringing. Details are fundamental, nothing was overlooked. Exotic feathers, imported stingray skins and embroidery in gold thread make for a collection that is refined and elegant, using stones and the nature of precious metals to create organic forms juxtaposed with elegant curves. Bringing in strong yet subtle elements of irony, which only the "bored rich women" will notice: the "Heist" bag for instance: it was made for the Tai Tai's to smuggle diamonds, as they want to buy the large diamonds but refuse to see why they need to pay tax. On the inside of the concealed opening's clasp is a diamond gauge so at a quick glance they are able to tell the size of the diamonds they are stealing...
