Inspired by the Miao population of southern China, the contrast between extreme poverty and the remarkable traditional clothing made of pleated skirts and woollen hairdressing, showing a complete devotion to work to create beauty. Their ceremonial clothes, with 2000 years of history, are the major living visual art form of their culture. Erika pays homage to the defining features of this tradition, focusing on voluminous hairstyles, reminiscent of the water buffalo and the oxen. An integral part of the Miao women's rural life, defining beauty and steeped in religious significance.
