"Tête-à-tête" is an ongoing series of intimate portraits featuring Martine Fougeron's two adolescent sons and their friends at home in New York City. Beginning in autumn 2005 and explores adolescence as a liminal state between childhood and adulthood, between the feminine and the masculine. It also reflects the face-to-face of the mother / photographer and the private world of her sons. The aesthetic inspiration was driven from Dutch paintings, mainly Vermeer's mysterious domestic scenes. Martine was also influenced by elements of the movie industry, like the dramatic effects of stage lighting.
