technical description

Short-sleeved blouse in tan-coloured tulle edged in white cotton poplin to match the shirt collar. Decorated with sculptural PVC appliqué and coloured, laser-cut foam featuring floral and geometric motifs. Worn over a contrast-edged cotton canvas corset bra and a white cotton pencil skirt with contrasting blue satin trim, dark side panels, and side ruffled elastic and waistband.

concept

Alithia was inspired by the differences between the Western and Asian (in particular Japanese) way of thinking of composition, harmony, proportion and space. Japanese kimonos, and architect Tadao Ando’s way of moving the viewer by using light contrast in his buildings, were both very inspirational to her. She also looked at Ikebana, tha Japanese art of displaying flowers, fascinated by its notion of composition that privileges voids. With this in mind she researched darkness and light, voids and cut-outs, flowers and water. Her collection became a mix of apparently contrasting elements, as romantic and fragile as a flower yet crude, geometric and long lasting as a modern building.
