Nothing without labour

2007-anna-sheldon-shoes
technical description

Black leather stiletto boots inspired by naturalistic studies. Embossed all over with the exception of a smooth leather toe cap and a leather strap on the back with snap buttons. Oxblood leather lining with branding on the insole.

Size 325x145x105mm, 281 gr., 2007.

concept

This collection was based on and inspired by the structure of a beehive. The three factions of the beehive are represented by the Queen calf boot, the Drone shoe and the Worker ankle boot. The Queen reigns over the hive and therefore the materials and embellishments are luxurious. The Drone mates with the Queen and is brightly coloured and sensuous in order to attract her. In contrast the Worker is aesthetically industrial and machine like. This only scratches the surface of Anna Sheldon's creativity: the footwear development included an entire storytelling illustrated as a comic strip (Anna's drawing ability is outstanding). In addition, she produced an entire stopmotion video herself (again extraordinary) to show the construction of the boot.
