concept

Inspired by the tension between body and garment, between East and West, Eli took women's jackets and tailcoat suits from the Victorian Age and blew them into huge oversized proportions resembling those of the kimono and the Tibetan Chuba. The body became its own garment, an eggshell outfit that fits the wearer like a second, fragile skin. A reminder of the porcelain doll, which during the collection development became symbolic of our ideal self, capable of telling us all about what beauty is. And the doll became Eli’s stand alone canvas, feeling extremely free to research her idea of beauty, developing a career outside fashion design in doll making, under the critically acclaimed alias Marmite Sue.
