ITS 2020 explained episode 15: How to revive a millenary sustainable tradition, by Kin Yan Lam.
26 Marzo 2021
Kin Yan Lam is an Hong Kong based fashion designer, graduated from the Menswear MA Course at London College of Fashion.
Kin Yan introduces Dong Cloth, a traditional handmade fabric sustainably produced by the Dong community in Southern China. Created through a process of picking cotton, spinning, weaving, embroidery, dipping in natural dyes, two years’ work and prolonged hammering, the Dong traditional cloth is the essence of a nation with a millenary history. In addition to the cloth, the design methodology focuses on the translation of packaging techniques and systems into pattern cutting to create innovative silhouettes in menswear. Kin Yan is all about sustainability and craftsmanship explored in a contemporary context. The aim of his project was to explore new interpretations of a traditional craft with the support of modern technologies.
International Talent Support was launched in 2002 and throughout its history it has developed into the most highly recognized platform to showcase & support the strongest young talents on the planet. Most importantly, it created an ever-growing family supporting creativity, like branches on a tree growing in different directions, yet nurtured by the same roots. It has built an impressive Creative Archive, a unique collection tracing the history of fashion evolution. Many of the over 630 finalists were selected by top fashion brands where they now hold key positions, or have successfully developed their own lines.
