The Cloak for Trieste

A performance blending dance, fashion, and art.

In November, the Teatro Stabile del Friuli Venezia Giulia Politeama Rossetti and ITS Arcademy host an international art project that explores the dual nature of clothing, both as a means of body protection and as a storyteller of personal history.

On Monday, November 18, 2024, at 6.30 PM, a dance performance will take place at Teatro Politeama Rossetti.

The experience continues at ITS Arcademy Museum of Art in Fashion from November 21 to 25, 2024 – open from 2 PM to 6 PM.

The Cloak for Trieste

“Le Manteau – The Cloak – Il Mantello” is a collective performance created by Swiss artist Elisabeth Masé and Franco-Beninese choreographer Tchekpo Dan Agbetou.

In 2019, the work evolved into a dance-theater performance featuring the cloak as its central element. The show has been presented in Africa, Europe, and the United States.

On November 18, 2024, the performance “Il Mantello per Trieste” will debut in Trieste at the Politeama Rossetti, in collaboration with Tchekpo Dance Company and ArteffettoDanza.

Elisabeth Masé’s performance will continue at ITS Arcademy – Museum of Art in Fashion every afternoon from November 21 to 25, featuring the embroidery of a new red cloak dedicated to the city. This cloak will be crafted by a group representing Trieste in all its diverse dimensions.

Admission to the museum, free for attendees of the theater performance at Politeama Rossetti, will allow visitors to observe the creation of the new cloak and immerse themselves in the heart of this artistic performance.

Tchekpo Dance Company

The Tchekpo Dance Company was founded in 1991 by Tchekpo Dan Agbetou in Angers, France. Since 1995, the dancer, choreographer, and dance teacher originally from Benin, West Africa, has continued his work in Germany. He has developed an expressive dance style that blends Western contemporary ballet with African elements. The company includes members from Europe, West Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Switzerland. Collaborations with artists from other disciplines result in particularly innovative works. Since 2018, the company has closely collaborated with Swiss artist Elisabeth Masé. Their productions are presented in theaters and museums across Europe, the United States, and Africa. Today, the Tchekpo Dance Company is part of the global dance project DansArt Tanznetworks and is regularly invited to international dance festivals.
