technical description
A protective/functional hooded sweatshirt and trouser uniform featuring a modular panelling construction. An over-dyeing process undertaken with the use of saffron and dye sealing elements give the perspective of natural manipulation of hue saturations on different panels of the garment. Constructed with an interior sportswear lining, the piece features hidden sleeve storm cuffs, adjustable sleeve widths and adjustable hem widths through the use of press studs. The draped back and sleeve sections offer an increased range of movement. The storm curtain on the hood can be raised or lowered, with the hood also able to be adjusted to cover the face in extreme conditions.
concept
Khāmsin
This collection is a conversation between dual identities in the diaspora of African & multi-racial British heritage. Adam spent his entire life split in half between London and South Morocco, a juxtaposition of two different environments that possess visual semiotic notions of communication. The goal was to give a home by design to this diaspora that has spread like the Khamsin wind: a constant, oppressive battle of sand in a harsh environment that spreads its reach through conflict, a symbolic world as a home for characters that have lived in Adam's head as archetypes expressing the sensibilities of the diaspora emerging as modular clothes that powerfully mix function, symbolism and communication.
