Of historical and analytical design - Fiore's collection looks at Tarantism and how this behaviour can translate into fashion and accessories. The item is a hybrid between a backpack and a vest, moulded directly into the body. concept
A woman, her torment…and her rebirth. Tarantism is a complex tradition in the south of Italy dating back centuries. It is a form of hysteric behaviour striking women, popularly believed to result from the bite of a particular species of spider. Through a deep theoretical and psychological analysis, Ilaria Fiore came to the conclusion that it is rooted in the development of two opposed elements, reason and unreason, ultimately symbolising a journey to come to terms with who we are and who we are expected to be. This is communicated through the pieces, which are structured and severe - the rules a woman is expected to follow - but also draped and cascading - the wild, romantic free side waiting to come out.
