concept

Humans have been creating tales of fantasy worlds in which to immerse themselves since time immemorial. These worlds can be experienced through a vast array of media, from paintings in caves, to written stories, videogames and now virtual reality, which brings an unprecedented level of realism into what used to be just a fantasy. Driving inspiration from the this, Birute took Japanese fairytales and brought them into her clothes through a variety of different means: she referenced the plain grids used in the creation of digital worlds, applied writing and manipulated traditional Japanese spirits’ faces. By using 3D techniques. Her aesthetics mixes feelings of mystery and horror, as much as it communicates both the digital age and tradition.
