concept
It all started with a note in the newspaper: "Boy raised like a bird by his mother". It was a story about a little Russian boy being left by his mother to live in a cage with birds. When he was found by social workers he was only able to communicate by flapping his arms and making noises. Johanne imagined what it would be like to be raised in a magpie's nest living between eggs and feathers, collecting strange objects and shiny stuff. She created a universe using all kinds of objects collected through the years: fake jewellery, bolts, watches, keys, candy sticks, an old bleached denim jacket...these became her references for sketching and draping, and the magpie and dotted egg shell pattern both became inspirational for the development of prints and silhouettes.
