concept
Renegotiating the relationship between foot and footwear by creating an experience through design elements derived from the children’s playground. The initial inspiration came from the work of sculptor Alexander Calder who inspired Bingqing Yi to work on the concept of balance and imbalance. Her research evolved into a reflection on the rocking chair and how the swaying movement constantly challenges the point of balance. This investigation takes the wearer into a radically different footwear world where the focus is about finding the balance point and re-defining the conception of what wearing a shoe means.
