technical description

Performative and emotional design aimed at creating objects that transcend fashion and create confusion. Partly classical black felt and leather hat, but with a twist in the form of sharp horse hairs which fall abundantly down its front, in combination with a leather strap that lies on top of the hairs.

Size 400x300x300mm, 290 gr., 2011.

concept

Avoiding ‘inspiration’, rather looking to cultivate an intuitive and accidental design process. Oliver's primary conceptual aim was to produce products exhibiting an intrinsic power, capable of commanding equality between themselves and the viewer without appearing to be purpose subservient as what is expected of a product. Seeking to evoke a multitude of emotions that are not associated with a fashion product, first and foremost fear, respect and confusion. It is the object in itself that must take centre stage and not just simply describe an idea. It is expected to create its own space and volume, which contributes heavily to its presence in the midst of the viewer.
